1. Maritime Accident

Two police officers assisted in the rescue of crewmembers trapped in the hold of a ship which was filled with carbon monoxide. One of the police officers died while the other officer suffered serious injuries. After a trial in which the ship owners were held to be liable, we were able to obtain settlements on behalf of our clients in the millions of dollars.

2. Maritime Accidents - Crewmembers

Several crew members on a cruise ship suffered varying injuries during a lifeboat drill when the winch that was lowering the lifeboat failed, causing the lifeboat to drop more than 30 feet to the water below. After intensive investigation and filing of a lawsuit, the cruise line was caused to admit liability. Settlements and trial verdicts on behalf of the injured crew members, who came from various countries, were in excess of $2 million.

3. Maritime Accident – Crewmember

Our client, who was a crewmember aboard a ship, was violently assaulted with a knife by a deranged crewmember. After intense litigation, the vessel owner was forced to admit liability and a settlement in excess of $900,000 was obtained for the client.

4. Maritime Accident – Passengers

In this case, our firm represented two passengers who had suffered injuries in separate accidents, several weeks apart, when they were caused to fall over a stair railing on a vessel. 5. Maritime Accident – Passenger Claim

In this case, our client was a passenger aboard a cruise ship who signed up for a “quickie” scuba course. During the free swim part of the course, our client was kicked in the face and the breathing regulator was dislodged from her mouth. The instructor was not in the vicinity and the client suffered neurological injuries as a result of near drowning. We filed a claim on our client’s behalf against both the instructor and the cruise line. As a result of settlement negotiations and a trial, we were able to obtain compensation for the client in excess of $700,000.

In this case, we represented a passenger who had slipped on a pen that had been left on the floor of the ship’s dining room. As a result, our client suffered severe injuries to her ankle. We were able to obtain a jury verdict at trial which resulted in compensation of approximately $250,000.

7. Maritime Accident – Crewmember

In one of the more bizarre cases that we have handled, a crewmember who complained of stomach pain was taken to the ship’s infirmary where the ship’s doctor attempted to perform an appendectomy, without anesthesia, resulting in severe and permanent abdominal injuries to the client. As a result of a lengthy and intense litigation on behalf of the client, the vessel owners were forced to admit liability and we were able to obtain compensation in the amount of $2 million.

8. Maritime Accident – Crewmember

In this case, our client was a crewmember aboard a vessel who was caused to trip and fall on a stairway which had fallen into disrepair as a result of lack of proper maintenance by the ship’s personnel. As a result of the accident, the client suffered severe and permanent back injuries. As a result of pursuing litigation against the vessel owners, the court determined that the vessel was liable for an unseaworthy condition, and we were able to obtain compensation for the client in excess of $1 million dollars.

9. Personal Injury – Product Liability

In this tragic case, a teenage boy was caused to become a paraplegic as a result of being crushed by an all-terrain vehicle in an off-road accident. 10. Personal Injury – Medical Negligence

Our infant client in this case became a paraplegic as a result of a negligent procedure at a hospital where the child had been admitted, as a result of a failure to thrive diagnosis. As a result of a combination lawsuit against both the hospital and several of the physicians and nursing personnel, we were able to obtain a multimillion-dollar compensation package on behalf of the client and his family.

11. Medical Negligence – Wrongful Death

In this case, our client went to a hospital complaining of chest pains. Although the electrocardiogram indicated that the client was having an acute heart attack, the client was sent home with a diagnosis of indigestion. Unfortunately, the client was rushed to the hospital later the same day and died. As a result of filing a lawsuit on behalf of the family of the deceased, we were able to obtain a settlement against the hospital of almost $1 million dollars.
