Royal Caribbean Cruise Struck With Norovirus, Cruise Ends Early

norovirus on royal caribbean cruise ship

Over the weekend, a Royal Caribbean cruise ship – the Grandeur of the Seas – cut short its travel plans when 200 passengers and crew became ill with Norovirus.

Quick highlights of the story:

  • Norovirus – a frequent passenger on cruise ships these days

  • Norovirus spread throughout Royal Caribbean passengers and crew

  • More than 200 people became sick

  • The CDC boarded the ship in Jamaica to collect samples from passengers

The 9 day scheduled cruise to Jamaica ended early as the virulent norovirus spread throughout the ship.

“Those affected by the short-lived illness are responding well to over-the-counter medication administered on board the ship,” says Royal Caribbean spokesperson Cynthia Martinez, in a statement reported by WJZ-TV.
